Twenty years ago, Redeemer started as a small Bible study. From there, we moved to the historic Firehouse on Prince Avenue, the Fire Hall at the Classic Center, and then, finally– the old Firestone Tire Building on Pulaski & Broad that we still call home.
We desire to be a church for the city of Athens. Redeemer is meant to be a place in which both Christians and non-Christians can grapple with the implications of the claim that Jesus was raised from the dead. C.S. Lewis writes,
“Christianity is either true and of infinite importance or not true and of absolutely no importance, but one thing Christianity can never be is moderately important.”
We hope that Redeemer might be a place where we can explore this claim.
VISION & CORE VALUES
Redeemer Presbyterian Church exists to bring the historic Christian faith to bear on Athens in the hope and expectation that as we proclaim the reality of the resurrected Christ, visible changes will occur in the quality of its spiritual, social, and material life. Redeemer Presbyterian Church is Kingdom focused, not church focused; Theologically driven, not strategy driven; Energized by Christ’s presence, not drained by church activities.
GOALS OF REDEEMER
Our goals are Growth in Grace, Fellowship and Service, Evangelism and Missions, Biblical World and Life View & Doxological Evangelism (which is worship). Everything we do at Redeemer is filtered through the lens of these goals.
We gather together every week for worship through music, reading the Bible, praying, teaching, and celebrating Communion. Sunday School for all ages is at 9:15AM and our worship service begins at 10:30AM.
At Redeemer, we want our minds to be renewed in the knowledge of the Truth, and our hearts filled with love toward the triune God, so that our lives are being transformed by the power of the gospel. To that end, we seek to provide consistently solid, careful instruction for members of all ages, in the areas of Scripture, Theology, and Practical Christian Living. Our primary avenue of Christian Education is Sunday School, which meets (for children, youth, and college students/adults) from 9:15 until 10:15 every Sunday morning. //More information on Sunday School at Redeemer
General parking is available on both sides of the main building on Pulaski Street and by the Upper Warehouse. There is also a lower Redeemer Lot on the corner of Broad Street and Newton- take the wooden stairs up to the church! Additional parking can be found along Clayton Street as well as at the West Washington Parking Deck (just a few blocks from the church.) Both street parking and the deck are free on Sundays. Greeters and signage will help you locate your Sunday School class and/or worship when you arrive.
Community Groups are a door to the life of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, and it is our hope that everyone who attends our church will engage with the body of Christ in this way. Through small groups, individuals are able to explore God’s word in the context of genuine care for one another. It is within these small communities that men and women can build personal relationships and practice applying the gospel to their lives. Each group expects to experience Jesus Christ in its midst, enabling participants to be transformed through mutual ministry and to experience life in the family of God. // Learn More About Community Groups
