Community Groups

Community Groups are a door to the life of Redeemer. Through small groups, individuals are able to explore God’s word in the context of genuine care for one another. It is within these small communities that men and women can build personal relationships and practice applying the gospel to their lives. Each group expects to experience Jesus Christ in its midst, enabling participants to be transformed through mutual ministry and to experience life in the family of God.

This year, the groups will be limited to 10 adults and will meet in homes throughout the Athens area. Some groups will be meeting outside, and some will be meeting on Zoom. All groups are led by trained lay-leaders from the congregation who receive continued oversight and support from our pastoral staff. Groups meet weekly for worship, Bible study, fellowship and prayer.

The goal of our community groups is fellowship around scripture. It is our belief that genuine community is developed as people study God’s word and seek to apply the Gospel in our commitments to one another. Many groups also participate in regular service projects or social events as we seek to be salt and light for Athens.

Community groups provide a place not only of discovery but also sanctuary from the pressures and anxieties of life. Many strong and lasting friendships are the product of healthy small groups. As God made us for community, we need others to help us apply the gospel to our lives. Our hope is that everyone who attends our church will be involved in a Community group.

When do groups begin?

Community Groups will begin the week of September 13th!

How do I join a group?

In searching for a Community Group, you may want to pick a group that meets on a night that is best for you, or by a location that is convenient to your home. The phone number of the group’s contact person is listed— once you call, you can get directions to the house where your group meets and any other information you will need regarding that group. If you’d like to switch groups after signing up, please contact Kristin in the office and she will help you with that process.
